The Recinte Modernista is an Art Nouveau hospital that was designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and built in the early 20th century. It was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1997. It is a collection of buildings across a beautiful campus and sits adjacent to the modern hospital of Sant Pau. There is much to be said about the design and site, but that will be for future posts.
One of the striking features, for me, is the relationship between the Recinte and Sagrada Familia. Construction of the Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and a historic photo from Recinte building site gives you a sense of how rural this part of Barcelona was in the early 20th Century.
You can barely notice the view onto Sagrada Famila through the windows of one of the buildings near the entrance to the campus.
Merely 900 meters separate the structures, a short and pleasant walk down Avinguda de Gaudi.
This gives you a sense of the campus
