For a family outing with Henry’s 5th grade class, we traveled to Vinyanova, a farm restaurant at the base of Montserrat, where we ate a traditional Catalan meal. The parent organizers hired ‘monitores’ – sitters – to entertain the kids so the adults could eat in peace! (Mad ate with the adults). The meal was served at a long table in an old stone building and included classic fare: pan con tomaquet, roasted vegetables (escalivada), chops, sausages with garbanzos and potatoes. Dessert included wonderful toasted hazelnuts and plump raisins (“I don’t even like raisins and I like these”- Madeline), and muscatel wine served in a traditional glass porron that the brave (and well-practiced) can drink from directly.
