Vic

Vic is the county capital, a city of about 50,000 people with history dating back to the 4th century B.C. The architectural variety attests to this history. We walked a signed tourist route to take in the local architecture while doing some food shopping.

The city has a beautiful system of maps and wayfinding aids to guide visitors, both three-dimensional and incorporated into the pavement.

We visited Vic twice, once on a market day, so we saw the Placa Major in two very distinct states.

Vic is famous for its embottits (cured meats), which we of course sampled.

We also bought some really nice lamb chops, an amazing fresh truffle (which Ed used for a pasta sauce), and a New Year's coca. Coca is a flat(ish) bread that resembles focaccia. It can be savory or sweet. The New Years coca is sweet and the one we tried was fairly puffy, almost more like a coffee cake. Simple but tasty, with sugar and slivered almonds on top.

A beautiful metal tree sculpture in the Placa del Pes holds wishes for the 3 kings for January 6.
