May 9 is Lusi's birthday - she's 9 years old. It was also the end of the State of Alarm: at 00 hours it expired, after over 6 months in force – along with Catalonia's 10pm curfew. This meant that curfew began at 10 on the 8th, then was lifted 2 hours later! Based on the noise on Friday night (the 7th) many people had already cast it off, so I don't think anyone was two worried about those 2 hours. Though maybe some people sat down to dinner at home at 10, and went out at midnight – it works perfectly with the national dinner schedule.
I forgot how much I was enjoying the quiet imposed by the curfew in the land of botellon en la calle. Even on our tiny street in our tranquil barrio, revelers partied and yelled for much of the night.
In Monday's paper, photos of large crowds proliferated. [The health minister expressed his great disappointment about the revelry on Saturday night, noting that it is still forbidden to gather in groups of more than 6 people. For that night, Salut reported 10 times the number of hospital admissions for drunkenness as for Covid – but we'll see how things look in another week.
