San Sebastián

San Sebastian is an easy bus ride from Bilbao. Our apartment was a very short walk from the bus station, eaasily reached after a stopover for lunch. On the first floor above the busy cafe-lined pedestrian street of Calle/Kalea Reyes Catolicos, it had a glorious bay window and 5 small terraces, perfect vantage points for enjoying the street life.

San Sebastian is a vacation paradise: beach, food, street life and mild weather. It wasn't difficult to see why the city was thronged with tourists, pandemic be damned.

Scenes from a walk up Urgull: the beautiful Monte Urgull park sits between Old Town and the Atlantic, with lush greenery and beautiful views | Views back across the city from the Baluarte del Mirador and down to the Pasealeku Berria along the water | Zuloaga Plaza on the way down from Urgull.

Eduardo Chillida's famous Peine del Viento (wind comb) is on the opposite side of the La Concha Bay from Urgull. It was mobbed with tourists, but arresting nevertheless. I had to wait patiently to capture these photos without interlopers.
